Now the ice has gone we have had a double stocking of fish. The lakes are nice and clear and the fishing has been excellent for those who don’t mind a bit of cold weather. Four double figure fish have been caught this week making despite the cold weather.
Two nice double figure fish caught this week. 17 year old Nathan Hopper of Stanley caught a nice rainbow of 10lb on a Zonker. West House regular Peter Crowe of hartlepool went one better landing an 18lb fish in Artic conditions
Three Doubles caught this week. 16 year old Ryan Tindall caught a fish of 15lb 2oz on a UV Yellow Blob while having some angling tuition. David Woods of Coxhoe caught a rainbow of 15lb on his first visit to the lakes.
Three doubles have been landed this week. Graham Lees of Ingleby Barwick caugh a nice fish of 12lb on a Damsel Nymph using a 5lb leader on a floating line.
Best Rainbow this week goes to Matthew Cartwright of Stockton who landed a cracking trout of 15lb 8oz. Matthew caught this excellent fish on a gold head damsel fished on a floating line.
Some big fish have been caught this week with at two Carp both over 19lb being landed by surprised anglers expecting a Rainbow.
It’s a real shame about these Cold Blustery winds. When the winds drop we have had some excellent hatches of flies and the sport on the surface has been excellent. Although still fishing well the winds have moved the fish down and made the fishing more difficult in terms of comfort presentation
Plenty of fish are still being caught at West House. Once again most of the activity has beed high in the water with Buzzers abd dries accounting for most of the fish caught. The lakes are now open until 8.30pm for those anglers wishing to fish the evening rise. Only £8 for an evening ticket 4pm onwards.
Settled conditions are producing some fantasic fishing at West House. Plenty of fish are rising with some good hatches of flies.
